Clay Class for Children

Ages 10 – 17

NOTICE: The Clay Class for Children request to register for the spring session opens February 1st.

Class Description: The children’s class presents the basics of creating pottery, including the forming processes of hand-building and throwing on the pottery wheel. Methods of decoration include glazing, underglazing, stamping, and others.

Class Sessions: Classes are offered on a quarterly basis. Important dates for the sessions follow below along with fees. Currently, only one children’s class is offered per quarter. Maximum enrollment is currently limited to 10 students. Minimum enrollment for presentation of a class is 6 students.

As this is a recent class offering, the number of potential registrants is unknown. Therefore request to register will be conducted with a lottery process, as is the case for TPG adult pottery classes.

The class instructor will e-mail a information/registration and fee payment form to participants selected through the lottery process.

Request to Register Procedure for the Class:
We use an online system for accepting requests to register for our class. Due to the potential of high demand for the class, and the extended period of availability to request registration, we now incorporate a lottery drawing as part of our system for selecting individuals to register for the class.

Those wishing to register for a class must do so through the online registration request form; the link to the form is provided below. In cases where multiple individuals (siblings, child and child’s friend, etc.) wish to take a class together, only one registration request needs to be submitted for the participants. Be sure to provide all names and contact information as requested on the online form. Upon receipt of all requests submitted during the designated request period, the names of individuals will be randomly selected to fill the available spots in the class.

An additional element that has been added to the request for registration process is the acceptance of current class participants into the next session of classes prior to the request to register lottery. We believe that it is extremely important for individuals who become enthusiastic for the medium through participation in our classes, to be able to continue their development of skills in the medium without the potential of interruption created by the lottery component. Pottery and the medium of ceramics is demanding of ongoing skill development for the eventual success of the individual. Therefore, space for new students may be slightly reduced, but not be an amount that we believe is detrimental to the acceptance of new students.

Selected participants will be contacted by the class instructor shortly after the lottery has been conducted. Those who were not selected will also be contacted to inform them of their status.
